Trio Phōs with Shih-Hui Chen

Trio Phōs with Shih-Hui Chen
Visiting Artists 2025
A recipient of the 2024 New World Symphony BLUE grant for its project The Sound of Connection, Trio Phōs is comprised of Yasmina Spiegelberg (clarinet), Sophiko Simsive (piano) and Julia Yang (cello); Taiwanese-American composer Shih-Hui Chen, who is on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, wrote the clarinet trio for The Sound of Connection. That work will be performed as the culmination of a weeklong interdisciplinary residency that will bring together classical chamber music, composition, choreography and contemporary dance. The project celebrates community, empathy and intergenerational relationships through the stories of older adults. The Sound of Connection will feature, in addition to Trio Phōs and Shih-Hui Chen, choreographers Crystal Michelle Perkins and Zoey November, and dancers from Perennial Movement Group.
