Submit a proposal for the Visiting Artists Program
The Office of Academic Affairs is now accepting proposals for visiting artists for the 2025-26 academic year.
Deadline for submissions: November 18, 2024.
Please send proposals to Lisa Florman, vice provost for the arts, at florman.4@osu.edu.
Eligibility and Expectations
All campuses, academic departments and centers at Ohio State University are invited to submit proposals to host a visiting artist or artists. Criteria for evaluation will include:
- Benefit of the artist's (or artists') engagement to the host department(s) and broader campus community.
- Benefit of the engagement to the artist's (or artists') career and practice.
- Quality and depth of the interaction with students, faculty and campus or community groups.
- Interdisciplinary nature of the proposal and/or its potential to engage a broad audience for art.
- Anticipated future impact the interaction will have on participants or plans for follow-on events.
We encourage proposals from two or more departments and/or centers in collaboration. Partnering with community organizations is both allowed and welcomed.
Artists must commit to visiting for at least 48 hours; longer engagements are even better. Awarded funding may be used for the artist's (or artists') honorarium, travel and lodging, and the department's administrative and program expenses (such as IT or technical support).
Each visiting artist is expected during the course of their visit to engage in the following:
- Lead a class or workshop for students
- Give a public presentation of their work
- Interact or collaborate in some fashion with faculty, including junior faculty
Application Process
Applications must include the following:
- A list of all those involved in hosting the visit
- Artist's (or artists') name(s), short bio(s), link to website
- A succinct proposal outlining the anticipated scope of the engagement and semester of visit. The proposal should address the following:
- How the artist's (or artists') engagement will benefit the host department(s) and broader campus community.
- How the engagement will benefit the artist's (or artists') career and practice.
- How the visit will foster collaboration across units or encourage interdisciplinary work.
- How the artist will interact with students and other members of the Ohio State community.
- How the units involved will publicize the event.
- A statement concerning any conversations with the artist(s) about a possible visit that have already taken place. The committee is likely to prioritize those proposals where communication between the prospective visiting artist and the host department(s) have already taken place and the artist has signaled their interest in coming to campus.
- A budget (not to exceed $20,000)
Note: Funding for all visiting artists in any given academic year will be approximately $75,000.
