Trouble Every Day (Claire Denis, 2001, France)
Introduced by Chris Feil, This Had Oscar Buzz cohost
Trouble Every Day follows a moody scientist (Vincent Gallo) and his bride (Tricia Vessey) honeymooning in Paris. They soon move beyond lovemaking and fall into the nightmarish, vampiric world of a reclusive former colleague (Béatrice Dalle). Set to an exceptionally lush soundtrack by Tindersticks, the film intertwines sensuality with bloodlust to become a pioneering and unparalleled work of female-directed body horror. One of the greatest living filmmakers, Denis (Beau Travail and High Life) visited the Wex in 2004. In French and English with English subtitles. (101 mins., 35mm)
