HBCC Art Exhibition: The Value of a Man and a Woman
Artwork by OSU Alum and artist Melissa Danette Smith focuses on the value of the Black woman.

Melissa Danette Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in drawing and painting from The Ohio State University in 2007. A native of Columbus, Ohio, she is a former elementary and middle school teacher and a proud single mother of four.
Today, Melissa is focused on healing, self-care and positive thinking. Having three daughters, she desires to inspire the next generation of young women to embrace their uniqueness, unlock their potential and unleash their inner strength.
Her new art exhibition, now on view at the Hale Black Cultural Center, features work focused on the value of the Black woman. These life-size paintings portray the strength, resilience and beauty that ultimately lie within.
