Blending Disney’s classic animation with influences from Japanese anime (Don Hall and Chris Williams, 2014), Big Hero 6 is set in the fictional futuristic city of San Fransokyo, a blend of San Francisco and Tokyo. Hiro Hamada is a brilliant but easily distracted boy who finds comfort following the suspicious death of his older brother in the companionship of a gentle medical robot named Baymax. Determined to find out the truth, Hiro decides to investigate his brother’s deadly accident. To do so, he upgrades Baymax with new crime-fighting abilities and enlists four of his brother’s eccentric friends as fellow detectives. Full of inventive comedy, action, and animation, Big Hero 6 has been a family favorite for the past decade. (102 mins., DCP)
