They're Here
This delightfully witty yet earnest documentary spends time with people across New York state as they describe their UFO sighting experiences.

Film/Theater
Part of the Cinema Columbus film festival’s lineup, the fascinating documentary They’re Here (Daniel Claridge and Pacho Velez, 2024) examines UFO culture as a lens to explore themes of perception, transcendence, and the need for humans to feel a sense of connection and purpose. New York state has the fifth-most UFO sightings in the US, and the film introduces us to a network of true believers—ranging from Twon, a stand-up comedian, to Dave, who has a more spiritual approach to close encounters. Full of humor and emotion, the film casts a spell as it builds to a memorable finale. Codirector Pacho Velez is a veteran of the center's Film/Video Studio Program, and he joins us for a virtual Q&A following the screening along with codirector Daniel Claridge. It’s a rich film to discuss so we encourage you to stay for the conversation with Velez. (74 mins., DCP)
