The acclaimed collective SML brings its unique sound to the Wex, blending improvisation, groove, electronics, and jazz into a captivating live performance. Known for expansive, rhythm-driven compositions and deep collaborative interplay, this Los Angeles–based quintet creates immersive musical landscapes that evolve in real time. SML’s singular approach invites audiences into a dynamic sonic experience that’s both hypnotic and adventurous.

The ensemble features Anna Butterss on electric bass, Jeremiah Chiu on synthesizers and live sampling, Josh Johnson on saxophone and electronics, Booker Stardrum on drums and percussion, and Gregory Uhlmann on guitar and effects. Members of SML have also played with Tortoise, Jeff Parker, Makaya McCraven, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Joel Ross.
