New Restoration

Directed by Thierry Frémaux, artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival, Lumière, Le Cinema! features more than 100 restored short films made by August and Louis Lumière. The brothers and their team of cameramen traveled the world and documented what they saw more than 120 years ago. Many who have taken a film class have seen Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory (1895) or The Arrival of a Train (1896), but this new collection captures the breadth and diversity of the subject matter recorded by the Lumières. The images are nothing short of breathtaking on the big screen and illustrate the early days of the art form. In French with English subtitles. (106 mins., 4K DCP)
