Start the semester with creativity, connection, and a little cinematic comfort.

Join us for an evening designed by our Art & Resilience student organization leaders to help you reflect on your goals, build community, and ease into the new academic year. Drop in anytime between 4:30–7 PM for an open collage workshop facilitated by the Columbus Collage Collective. You'll be guided to create a visual representation of your hopes for the semester, explore what brings you joy, and connect with other students in a relaxed, creative space. All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary.

Free pizza will be served at 6 PM while supplies last. Regular film concessions will also be available.

At 7 PM, settle in for a film double feature selected by Art & Resilience students:

In the animated comedy adventure The LEGO Batman Movie, Batman is used to working alone—until he accidentally adopts a young sidekick and must learn to collaborate with others to save Gotham City. Along the way, he confronts his fear of connection and discovers the value of teamwork, friendship, and chosen family. With remarkable voice work by Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, and Ralph Fiennes. (104 mins., DCP)

The Birdcage is a classic comedy that follows a longtime couple (Nathan Lane and Robin Williams) who run a drag nightclub and have raised a son together. When their son announces his engagement to the daughter of a conservative politician, the family scrambles to present a more traditional image, leading to hilarious chaos. The film celebrates love, acceptance, and the many forms family can take. With iconic performances by an all-star cast including Gene Hackman, Hank Azaria, and Dianne Wiest. (117 mins., DCP)

Both films explore chosen family, identity, and the people who help us feel at home. Paired with the collage workshop, the evening invites you to reflect on what you hope to build this semester, who you want beside you, what brings you energy, and what you want this new semester to hold.

This event is free for students. Come for one part or stay for the whole evening.

"Both hilarious and politically incisive, The Birdcage stands up surprisingly well through a modern lens." Them
