Daichendt discusses Tribal and the Cultural Legacy of Streetwear, a book he recently contributed to and edited. Daichendt uses Tribal, which launched in 1989, as a lens to examine the history of streetwear and the cultural backdrop of Southern California subcultures. The book addresses the important influences of skateboarding, surfing, graffiti, street art, hip-hop, punk, lowriders, and other aspects of street culture on the brand and the clothing style as a whole.

Learn about Daichendt’s curatorial- and community-engaged practice through the conversation. Stay after the talk for a Q&A and book signing!

This event is part of our new program, First Thursdays! Join us on the first Thursday of every month for artist talks, film screenings, and performances as well as opportunities to relax, have fun, and express your creativity with hands-on art-making activities.
