Ohio State Assistant Professor of Theater, Film, and Media Arts Amrutha Kunapulli’s new book Worlding Tamil Cinema (Routledge) looks at trends in Tamil-language filmmaking that are reaching towards global audiences in cinemas and through streaming. Kunapulli will discuss Worlding Tamil Cinema and introduce the delightful and popular Tamil film Soodhu Kavvum. Winner of the Best Film at the 2013 South Indian International Movie Awards, Soodhu Kavvum is a fun small-time-criminals-do-everything-wrong movie and is one of Tamil cinema’s most popular dark comedies. After the film, Kunapulli will take questions about her book and discuss the film with the audience.
