Drawing from collections in the Rare Books & Manuscripts Library, this pop-up exhibition highlights the evolving approaches to metalworking and the shifting technologies and skills that defined the past two centuries and it reveals what the daily life of manufacturers in these transformative eras looked like.

Attendees will have an opportunity to see publications from the Dr. Ivan S. Gilbert Trade Catalogs & Ephemera Collection, printing plates from the James Thurber Papers, a notebook of a 19th-century blacksmith, type specimens and other items that offer a unique glimpse into the people, processes and products that helped forge America.
