Community Outreach
Collaboration with the community is an essential component
of the arts at Ohio State. Partnerships with education, business, public
and social service enable our students and faculty to have impact beyond
the classroom, lab or studio. We have a wealth of cultural and intellectual
resources to share with our city, the state of Ohio and the world at large.
We appreciate and encourage unique opportunities to expand our creative
efforts and knowledge. Some of the many ways in which the College of the
Arts engages with the community include:
Public Events
Concerts, plays, lectures, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, recitals
and more… many of the programs in the College of the Arts are open
to the public. Audiences are always welcome! Faculty and students are
pleased to share their work and appreciate your interest and participation.
Many programs are free. Parking is available on campus.
K-12
Creative opportunities for elementary, middle and high school students
are numerous and diverse, both on campus and in the school systems. Through
OSUArts and our partnerships with selected schools, young students are
able to interact with performing and visual artists. As just one example,
the Department of Theatre conducts school tours as part of its curriculum,
using dramatic interpretation to illustrate issues of concern for young,
contemporary audiences.
Professional Partners
Collaborating with the professional business community is important in
the College of the Arts, and is particularly significant in the Department
of Design, where faculty have established relationships with several businesses
that provide exciting, contemporary and professionally relevant research
projects for their students. Our students gain practical knowledge and
experience while providing innovative design solutions to our professional
business partners.
Art Education
The Department of Art Education led a 5-year national initiative to transform
education through the arts. The TETAC project involved 35 schools in 6
regions and was funded with grants totaling over $15 million from the
Walter H. Annenberg Foundation and the J. Paul Getty Trust. Five public
schools in Ohio -- one high school, one middle school, and 3 elementary
schools in urban, rural and suburban areas -- participated, and consequently
established the Ohio
Partnership for the Visual Arts.
