For the fifth year in a row, the OSU Percussion Ensemble presents a powerhouse performance of percussive sights and sounds. Guest faculty and students from the OSU Department of Dance will once again join forces with the Percussion Ensemble and feature 3D animation created by students from ACCAD (Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design)

The OSU School of Music’s Percussion Ensemble once again joins forces with the Department of Dance to present a powerful, fifth annual performance of Drums Downtown. The brainchild of percussion faculty members Susan Powell and Joe Krygier, the crowd-pleasing show combines original music, new choreography, 3D animation and more in a show performed by more than 50 music and dance students.

“This year’s performance is hugely energetic—there’s a massive
hip-hop piece, Gershwin jazz and urban sounds,” says Powell.
“It’s contemporary. It’s visually engaging. And it’s lots of fun.”

The high-energy program includes:
Huejutla, by Anders Astrand, chorography by Susan Hadley
Ku-Ka-Ilimoku by Christopher Rouse, choreography by
Coco Loupe
Hip Hop finale, with original music by Krygier, choreography by
Teena Custer
• Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm and ‘S Wonderful, arranged by Anders Astrand for marimba and vibraphone, performed by the
Pendulum Duo
Glades/Origins by Henrik Stringberg
