Contemporary Music Festival 2007
For the fourth year, the OSU School of Music is partnering with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) to present the Contemporary Music Festival. This year's festival, slated for Jan 31–Feb 4, welcomes world-renowned composer and conductor Gunther Schuller, one of the most versatile and multi-faceted musicians in the nation. Schuller has been at the forefront of new developments in American music for more than 60 years, and is known for his long-time interest in jazz as well as many other types of American music. He is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and productive composers of his generation. With more than 160 compositions, he has garnered many of the most prestigious awards for composers, among them the Pulitzer Prize (1994), the Gold Medal for Music from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1997) and a MacArthur Foundation "genius" award (1991).
