| OSU Department of Dance Announces First Columbus Summer Dance Festival The highly ranked Department of Dance at The Ohio State University hosts the first Columbus Summer Dance Festival June 16-28 at the university campus. The festival is a collaborative event presented with Columbus Movement Movement (cm2), the Dove Arts Project, OSU dancers and faculty, and Movement Research Inc of New York. The Summer Dance Festival includes two weeks of contemporary dance classes – from ballet to Afro-Caribbean and hip-hop -- for high school students through professional dancers as well as opportunities for the public to see new works on stage. The event will conclude with a festival performance on Saturday, June 28. Other performances June 20-22 will feature OSU alumna Kristina Isabelle and her Columbus-based dance company. According to Susan Petry, chair of the Department of Dance, there are many ways to enjoy the festival. “High school dance students can experience contemporary dance and fusion styles. College dancers will find relevance as they aspire to professional careers. And professional dancers will find new ways to come together with the broader dance community,” she says. “The general public will enjoy new works created by all of these talented and creative individuals.” Petry adds that dance students can sign up for the whole festival – two
weeks of non-stop dancing – or just a few classes here and there.
They also can audition for the repertory and perform in the final dance
concert. If you simply would like to come to one of the dance concerts: Kristina Isabelle Dance Company: OSU Festival Dance Concert If you have any questions, feel free to call the OSU Department of Dance at (614) 292-7977.
