Event Spotlights Clarinet

Johnstone Woodwind Master Series
Weds Apr 30 – Sat May 3

The OSU School of Music presents the third Johnstone Woodwind Master Series event—spotlighting the clarinet—Weds, April 30–Sat, May 3. This series is generously supported by Jack and Zoe Johnstone of Columbus and each year features a woodwind instrument in concerts, masterclasses and discussions; previous series spotlighted the flute and bassoon.

The 2008 event welcomes master teacher D. Stanley Hasty, clarinet professor emeritus, Eastman School of Music. Many former students will be on hand including Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr and renowned Verdehr Trio performing the premiere of Rhapsody for clarinet, violin and piano, composed by OSU music alumnus Daniel Perttu and commissioned by the Johnstone Fund for New Music.
Other participants include Eastman professor and former Columbus Symphony clarinetist, Kenneth John Grant, many university faculty artists and the Greater Columbus Honors Clarinet Choir conducted by Don Nathan, director of bands at Worthington Kilbourne High School.

A concert featuring Kenneth John Grant starts at 8 pm Wed, April 30, Weigel Auditorium. Tickets available at the door. Details and a schedule for the four-day series are available on the website music.osu.edu/JWMS. Or call (614) 292-0789.
