| OSU Jazz Festival Slated for March 30-April 2 The Ohio State University School of Music hosts the 2006 OSU Jazz Festival Thursday, March 30-Sunday, April 2 on campus, according to Ted McDaniel, professor. Events include: The Tim Cummiskey Trio OSU Jazz Ensemble Dwight Lenox and the High School Jazz Day Biographies Tim Cummiskey – Central Ohio guitarist and educator Tim Cummiskey performs throughout the Midwest, and currently leads several groups ranging from solo jazz and classical guitar to larger groups. He has two recordings on the String Jazz label. He is a member of the jazz studies faculty at Ohio State, and is a contributor to Downbeat Magazine, Jazz Improv and Just Jazz Guitar magazine. Dwight Lenox – Growing up in New York, Lenox honed his talents in the church choir, going on to study and perform music from country to rock ‘n roll. But jazz is a natural showcase for his talent. He has been showcased with many jazz groups, and has been a featured vocalist with the 17-piece Columbus Jazz Orchestra. His Lenox Avenue Express has performed in venues from New York to LA to the heart of the Midwest. Jim Masters -- As lecturer in jazz trombone since 1994, Jim Masters brings a depth of experience as a trombonist, singer, performer and educator. Masters toured the U.S. and Japan with the Buddy Rich Band and the Widespread Jazz Orchestra, and has performed with Tito Puente, Mel Lewis, Clem DeRosa, Larry Elgart, Roy Gerson, Mousey Alexander, and was featured vocalist and soloist with the Jorge Anders Latin/Jazz Big Band with Candido. In Columbus, he performs with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Bobby Floyd, Yumbambe, Toll House Jazz Band and other local groups. Shawn “Thunder” Wallace – Wallace is a performer, recording artist, composer, clinician, educator. . . and a crowd-pleasing performer of jazz, classical and Christian music. He has been seen and heard nationally on CBS, BET, NBC and NPR, and is winner of the Downbeat Magazine outstanding soloist award. Wallace, who recorded his first album at age 14, has released six CDs. Since age 13, he has lead several bands including The Shawn “Thunder” Wallace Quartet, The East End Orchestra, The Gospel Jazz Review and Infusion.
