Metaphor and Irony 2: Mon Nov 8–Fri Dec 3 Special Events Stunning examples of contemporary Czech theatre design will be spotlighted in Metaphor and Irony 2, an exhibition opening Nov 8 simultaneously in three locations on the OSU campus. The exhibition will showcase original costumes and puppets, models, scene and costume design renderings, and production photos, according to Joseph Brandesky, co-curator and professor of theatre at OSU-Lima. The exhibition, he says, will feature works by Frantisek Tröster, considered one of the most influential mid-20th century Czech theatre designers, and Jaroslav Malina, past OSU guest artist. “Our goal is to acquaint Americans with the quality and variety of Czech scene design,” says Brandesky. “(The Czech Republic) is a meeting point of cultural influences from around the world, and as such is a breeding ground for great art and great artists.” The exhibition is a follow-up to 1999’s Metaphor & Irony at the Riffe Center in downtown Columbus. It is being curated by Brandesky and Helena Albertova, vice director, Theatre Institute, Prague. Metaphor and Irony 2, is funded by the Ohio Arts Council, OSU’s College of the Arts, Department of Theatre, Hopkins Hall Gallery & Corridor, and the History of Costume and Textile Collection-College of Human Ecology. |
