• Lighting Design and Technology
Mary Tarantino is the resident lighting designer and director of graduate
studies. She received her MFA degree in scenography from the University
of Massachusetts. Her professional credits include the American College
Theatre Festival, Hartford Stage Youth Theatre, The Children's Theatre
of Massachusetts, Karamu House (Cleveland, OH), Players Theatre Columbus,
Contemporary American Theatre Company (CATCO), as well as projects with
ProMusica Columbus, Vaud-Villities, and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to theatre lighting designs, she has served as an architectural
lighting consultant for projects in Ohio, Massachusetts, Vermont, and
Hong Kong. She designed the façade lighting for the Schottenstein

Mary Tarantino is the director of the Theatre Department’s Moving
Lights Laboratory, established with support from the College of the Arts,
a University Seed Grant, and a Battelle Grant. Her ongoing research involves
applications of moving lights design and technology for theatre productions,
movement-theatre, and architecture. The Theatre Department is currently
involved in pilot project collaboration with Vari-Lite, Inc. Equipment
experimentation for courses and department-produced events, training opportunities
and partnered research ventures are key aspects of this unique collaboration.
