David Tovey, Associate Professor, joined the School of Music faculty in 1992. A native of Oswego, NY, he taught public school music in New York State before obtaining his doctorate in music education from The University of Michigan in 1979. He has published research findings in the BULLETIN
OF THE COUNCIL FOR RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION as well as the JOURNAL OF
HISTORICAL RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION; he has also contributed to both
the CHORAL JOURNAL and MUSIC EDUCATORS JOURNAL.Currently state chair for
the Ohio Music Education Association's Multicultural Awareness Committee, he has also served on the planning
committee for several OMEA state conferences. An active church musician
and organist, he is music director at Gay Street United Methodist Church
of Mount Vernon as well as a past dean of the North Central Ohio Chapter
of the American Guild of Organists. He is national multicultural chairman
for the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts. He
serves as director of choral activies for the Mansfield Campus, where
he teaches courses in music education, world musics, music appreciation,
and class voice.
