Professor Pyne began his performance career at age 18 when Josef Krips
invited him to become a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has recorded as principal clarinet with the Buffalo Orchestra under
conductors Lukas Foss, Michael Tilson Thomas, Julius Rudel, and Semyon
Bychkov, and was featured frequently as soloist. Professor Pyne has served
as principal with the Robert Shaw Festival in France and the Lake Placid
Sinfonietta. His faculty appointments have included the Cleveland Institute
of Music, University of Michigan, SUNY at Buffalo, and SUNY at Fredonia.
He is a leader in clarinet mouthpiece design and an active researcher.
