Gregory Proctor

Before joining the OSU faculty in 1978, Dr. Proctor taught at the University
of Texas, Yale University, Oberlin College, and Mannes College of Music.
He has presented papers in England and Australia, and at national and
regional conferences of CMS, SMT, and ASUC (SCI). He has made numerous
presentations before regional forums on the subjects of Schenkerian theory,
foundations of diatonic tonality, tonal chromaticism, early twentieth-century
harmony, and computer sound synthesis. His articles and reviews have appeared
in MUSIC THEORY SPECTRUM, JOURNAL OF MUSIC THEORY PEDAGOGY, FONTES, MLA
NOTES, and CURRENT MUSICOLOGY. He is working on books about Schenkerian
theory and Romantic harmony, as well as a textbook. Professor Proctor
was on the planning committee of regional and national meetings of ASUC,
the executive committee of the Ohio Theory and Composition Teachers Association,
the editorial board of COLLEGE MUSIC SYMPOSIUM, and was 1992 SMT program
chair.
