Professor Peeler, soprano, is head of the voice area in the School of
Music, and director of the graduate program in vocal pedagogy. Her former
teachers include Hubert Kockritz, Elena Nikolaidi and Thomas Houser. Dr.
Peeler has performed more than 30 leading roles in opera and musical theatre
throughout the United States and has performed in concerts widley in the
U.S., Italy and Austria. Known as a stage director, Peeler has directed
numerous productions in the southeastern United States, and has headed
college opera programs in Mississippi and Texas. A frequent adjudicator
and clinician, she was chosen in 1991 to be one of four master teachers
to inaugurate the Voice Intern Program for the National Association of
Teachers of Singing, and served as a coordinator of that program in 1993
and 1996. In the summer, Dr. Peeler serves on the faculty of the American
Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Many of her former students
are educators and choral directors, and sing professionally in this country
and Europe.
