• Jazz performance
As lecturer in jazz trombone since 1994, James Masters brings a depth
of experience as a trombonist, singer, performer and educator. As an alumnus
of Youngstown State University, he received outstanding soloist awards
at the Wichita and Elmhurst Jazz festivals. He actively pursued a career
leading his own groups, freelancing in northeastern Ohio and Pittsburgh
before moving to New York City in 1979 where he worked until 1990. Mr.
Masters toured the U.S. and Japan with the Buddy Rich Band and the Widespread
Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with Tito Puente, Mel Lewis, Clem DeRosa,
Larry Elgart, Roy Gerson, Mousey Alexander, and was featured vocalist
and soloist with the Jorge Anders Latin/Jazz Big Band with Candido. Each
year in NYC you may see him appearing in Bending Towards the Light, a
Jazz Nativity. He performs with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Bobby Floyd,
Yumbambe, Toll House Jazz Band, and other local groups. Mr. Masters heads
The American Jazz Experience which has presented its program to over 20,000
students in central Ohio. |
