Marshall Haddock joined the School of Music faculty at The Ohio State University in 1975 as Director of Orchestral Activities. Since its founding in 1980, he has also been Music Director and Conductor of the Opera/Music Theater program. In this capacity he has conducted forty seven operas/musicals at OSU. Columbus audiences and critics alike have acclaimed memorable performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Mahler's Resurrection Symphony, Puccini's Madam Butterfly, Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Bernstein's West Side Story and Verdi's Falstaff. Mr. Haddock began his musical studies on the clarinet, but shifted his emphasis to orchestral conducting under the influence of the German émigré conductor, Kurt Frederick. He later studied conducting with Pierre Monteux at his Domaine School, with Sir Adrian Boult and Erich Leinsdorf at Tanglewood, and with Richard Lert at the American Symphony Orchestra League's Institute for Orchestral Studies. With a repertoire of more than 500 works, he is comfortable with a wide range of musical styles. Mr. Haddock has made guest conducting appearances with professional orchestras and opera companies in a number of cities including Albuquerque, Baton Rouge, Canton, Columbus, Louisville and Milwaukee, and on various summer festivals in California, Maine, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin. He has also been an active orchestral and chamber music clarinetist, having held Principal Clarinet chairs with the Akron and Canton Symphony Orchestras. He also played with the Santa Fe Opera, the Kentucky Opera, and the Madison Summer Symphony. He has presented chamber music recitals in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Akron, Canton, New York City, London, and at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Sussex, England.
