Dr. Mayo is president and owner of Noel Mayo and Associates, the Philadelphia,
PA industrial design firm. He has been an Eminent Scholar in art and design
technology, and Professor of Industrial Design, at The Ohio State University
since 1989. His articles have appeared in numerous publications including
Art: Images and Ideas, The Wall Street Journal, and Industrial Design.
Professor Mayo participated in a 1996 National Science Foundation (NSF)
conference on "Design Education in 2006,Ó presented "The
Future of Education" at the 1995 International Design Conference,
and was a panelist discussing "Design After the Year 2000 - A Socratic
Dialogue" at the 1994 national conference of the Industrial Designers
Society of America (IDSA). He was a member of the Presidential Design
Awards Committee in 1999, and has been a member of the SEGD Board of Directors,
Continuing Education Planning Committee since 1998. He served as chairperson
of the Industrial Design Department at Philadelphia College of Art, and
has created recruitment and retention programs for minority students in
industrial design. Dr. Mayo recruited and sponsored Ohio State's first
African American industrial design graduate student, and has developed
a resource network of minority designers around the United States.
